Just wondering what people take with them on the longer trips away. What sorts of tools do people take and what sorts of parts do you take on a remote area trip? Obviously there needs to be a line between taking the bare essentials and overloading the car with stuff that you dont need. After all you only need enough to get the car running to get it to a major town, you dont need to overhaul the thing on the side of the road.

I would take a screw driver set, sockets, spanners (sizes that are the common ones i use on the car), a hammer or two. As for parts i reckon spare belts, cable ties, electrical connectors, spare wire, electrical tape, spare oil filter, fuel filter and air filter, tyre repair kit, two spare tyres when on long long trips, some differing sized lengths and diameters of copper pipe and some hose clamps to patch up blown radiator hoses (takes up less space than a heap of spare hoses).

What else?

I tend to try and take things that will stop you, and vehicle specific stuff too..

but i think you covered most of the general stuff, except i have a new essential Rescue Tape, that stuff is awesome you get it at boat shops it goes for 15bucks a roll, and is a silicone based tape that seals just about anything.. i made a diesel return line outta it and it got me home from newcastle..

is that that Tommy tape stuff they have mentioned on 4wd action Trav? I think Roothy used it once to repair a blown radiator hose. He just wrapped it around the spot in the hose where the pin hole leak had developed and it sealed fine.
